So I thought how fun would it be to create a fairy mouse with pretty little butterfly wings and then thought about the opera Der Flieder mouse lol and did a fun play on words and my cartoon style mouse! Fairies always remind me of spring so thus the inspiration.

So this week I am continuing my water color paintings for a full year with my little Feisty fox. I adore the fox they have such great personalities (you know that bigger than life personality!) so I was inspired by that and one of my favorite flowers the rose. This has been a long slow process of pulling myself out of the art funk that has plagued me for so many years and I find it very refreshing trying my hand at a medium I have always feared. So I tried my hand at oil pastels and this is what I came up with an ode to Marilyn Monroe. I started my art journey with oil paints way back in the day and thought it might be fun to revisit them with my art club at the YMCA. Everyone had a great time and came up with some amazing pieces. I just thought I would share mine with you!
Okay so it is no secret I love butterflies and they are in alot of my art works. This one represents how nature can become one with your soul. Like a painting it is full of colors swirling about you......little wonders that a tiny pieces of joy if you just take the moment and look at them. So here is what I think we all should do go out side and drink in the beauty of nature!

So as alot of you know I am doing a kids art club at the YMCA and this week I challenged my Teens to take a fairy tale or story character and turn them Gothic. So as a sample I did my Grunge Tinker Bell entitled "Grunge pixie dust". Now keeping with the theme of the year I combined watercolor and inks and did it monochrome to give that Gothic look. This week my inspiration was taken from one of my favorite Shakespeare characters Ophelia. Keeping with my plan to do a year of water colors I am always looking for inspiration in things around me....Stories, plays, music and nature are huge influences in my work. I am having alot of fun playing with watercolors they are freeing and I have to force myself yo be less of a control freak with the art because really they are going to do what they want. So this week in my YMCA Art Club we are painting with Acrylics inspired by the art of Klimt and I though it would be fun to take the Mythological tale of Hades and Persephone and create an image. So this is what I came up with.

This week I focused on the theme of Metamorphosis, how change can change a person or a culture and even the world we live in and the symbol I choose to represent Metamorphosis is the butterfly because they go through so many changes to get to their beauty. As I said my metamorphosis this year is learning a new technique that being watercolor. I love how with every stroke and every dab of paint a water color changes from one thing to another you just have to to let it do its own thing and become what it wants to become.

This week I am celebrating a bit of spring with this piece called POPPIES. Again it is a mini watercolor painting (4x4) and I had the best time working on it. I love poppies and tend to use them, roses and butterflies in a number of my works. I find including nature in pieces beautiful. So today I am starting my own personal challenge to do one watercolor works each week for the rest of this year. Today I am sharing my little mini painting THE BLUE FAIRY, the piece is 4x4 and completely watercolor. So why did I pick watercolor for this year? Well it is a medium that I find absolutely beautiful and have never felt I was very good at, so what is the old saying practice makes perfect. So ready set go!
I know this one is very simple but sometimes simple says alot.....what I ask of you my followers let me know what you think of each piece, this helps me grow as an artist!
