Our first project was this amazing art journal which we started with an ordinary school composition book then took it to the next level by adding fabric papers to the front and back by Recolections from Michaels (or you can use fabric with fabric stiffener on the back. then on a piece of muslin mom did free motion designs using SULKY threads and also created a quilted heart for the front cover using her threads and hand painted muslin heart. On the back piece again using her Sulky thread she did free motion then we grated metallic crayons and melted them into the cloth using the APPLIQUE PRESS SHEET by Bear Thread Designs. Then with a black pen I doodled designs then with Ranger Distress inks in black sook I stamped my art quote. Next I added some yarn fibers to the spine and tied on some charms from my stash. Now all I need to do is fill it with art and dreams!
The Next Project we did was a heart Christmas ornament. My mom colored the front using crayons then heated the color into the fabric using her iron and the Applique Press Sheet by Bear Thread Designs on the back we used watercolors and painted on the color for a different effect. She then added batting to the inside and sewed the two pieces closed using free motion and Sulky thread. Next Cat went in and beaded the edges using Sulky invisable thread and she added a decorative bead to the tip of the heart.
Last Cat attached the hanger and a decorative flower from Prima as well as an antique pearl button from our stash. This is a fun easy project you can do with your children and make family heirlooms.
For our last project mom and I crated this little card that is the perfect way to pass on inspriation to all your friends and loved ones! We started with a purple piece of card stock to make our base then on a piece of muslin mom did free motion designs along the edge using SULKY thread and then using their transfer pens she colored in the heart shape and painted with alcohol to blend them. Next using twinkling H2O paints I painted the background then once it dried using my pinking shears shaped it to fit my card.
With embroidery thread by Sulky I went around the heart creating a home sewed look. Then I stamped my sentiment in the center of the card using Ranger Distress Ink in Black Soot. I attached the fabric piece to my card using scotch quick dry liquid adhesive and then using gold acrylic paint distressed the card edges. To finish I added a piece of hand dyed silk ribbon from REALLY REASONABLE RIBBONS.
These are fun ways to explore the inner artist in yourself so I invite you to try your hand at making some items for yourself!
Color your world beautiful
